🧑‍💻 The Role

As a Staff Data Engineer at NewStore, you will lead our Data Strategy and enable our customers to leverage the insights they need when they need it. You'll use your extensive experience in analytics, big data engineering, and data modelling to shape the technical direction of our data domain. Mentoring and empowering other engineers is an integral part of the role, and you'll have plenty of opportunities to champion best practices and drive the creation of a robust, scalable platform and outstanding customer-facing products.

• Define the Vision: Lead discussions, navigate architectural trade-offs, and steer your domain's long-term direction, focusing on analytics and real-time data solutions.

• Hands-on Leadership: Work alongside your team, solving complex data challenges and setting the bar for technical excellence in GCP, AWS and BigQuery.

SQL and Python are our native languages. We also have a sprinkling of Scala.

DBT is our go to tool for data modelling and analytics.

Airflow is our daily companion.

BigQuery and GCP are central,

Big Data, Data Lake, MPP, and MapReduce are not just buzzwords for us; they're the heart and soul of our platform.

Kafka is our streaming platform, and we plan to use Flink to process real-time data.

• You are a data expert with 8+ years of experience building secure, scalable data products, focusing on analytics and real-time data.

• You have mastered data analysis, modelling, governance, and optimization.

• You are a mentor who thrives in collaborative environments and makes a real impact.

• You are an excellent communicator who can explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

• You have a proven track record of delivering complex, secure, scalable data solutions in fast-paced settings.

• You have a strong architectural mindset, leading discussions on technical trade-offs with well-considered solutions.

• You have experience building real-time pipelines and, more importantly, deciding not to. Experience with Spark or Flink (or similar) will be helpful.

• You have dabbled in full-stack engineering or user experience development.
